AI Ken boarding a plane to Charleston

There are days that feel like they should count as three days rolled into one. This sounds like one of them!

Well, I’m alone. Allow me to explain.

Ken went to Charleston for his grandson’s high school graduation, and I stayed home.

The day was tremendously long.

The night before Ken’s flight, I had only slept for about an hour and a half. Ugg. My monkey mind just wouldn’t shut up. I’m pretty sure every memory I’ve ever had crept into my brain and took over the sleeping process. Plus, the thought of having to get up at 4:00am kept swirling through my head like an annoying little tornado.

But, despite my zombie-like condition, Ken got to the airport on time — actually a bit earlier than expected. We beat the traffic heading toward Phoenix, which made the drive much smoother than I had anticipated.

The drive home, however, was another story entirely.

The morning sun had officially clocked in for work and was showing off with all its blazing glory — directly into my eyes. Driving east on the freeway, straight into the Arizona sunrise, on almost no sleep, is pretty much the recipe for disaster.

Thankfully, there wasn’t one.

I made it home safe and sound, although I caught myself drifting mentally a few times and completely losing track of my speed. Thank goodness most of the heavy traffic was going the opposite direction.

When I finally walked through the door at 5:55am, I went straight to bed without hesitation.

I woke up around 8:00am, shuffled myself into the shower, and tried to transform back into a functioning human being.

Then the phone rang.

It was my dermatologist’s office.

“Can you come in now?”

Um…no. Absolutely not. But give me a little time and I can be there around 10:30.

My original appointment wasn’t until 1:15pm, but honestly, anytime I can get in and get out sooner is fine with me.

Me and Gianni at the hair salon

After the appointment, I headed to Walmart for groceries since I was already nearby. But before I even grabbed a cart, I stopped at the beauty salon inside the store to make an appointment with Gianni.

My roots were officially a mile long.

Well…

Guess where I spent the next two hours?

Yep. In the salon chair.

By the time I finally finished grocery shopping and got everything home, I completely collapsed onto the couch. It was already 1:00pm and I felt absolutely done for the day.

Oh no I wasn’t.

I still had Coloring Club at 6:00pm.

Honestly, I was exhausted, but I dragged myself to the golf cart and headed over anyway. I tried to rally. I really did.

But after about thirty minutes, I finally admitted defeat, excused myself, and headed back home.

A little television.
A quiet house.
A comfy bed.

And finally…sleep.

This morning, however, I feel refreshed and ready to go again.

Funny how one good night’s sleep can make the entire world seem manageable again.

How about you? Ever have one of those days where you feel like you’ve lived an entire week in just twenty-four hours?
