These past two days have been… well… unbearably boring.
You know the kind of days I’m talking about.
Nothing on the calendar. Nothing calling your name. Just you, the house, and a whole lot of meh.
Ken? Oh, he doesn’t mind one bit. He can sit back, relax, and enjoy the quiet.
Me? Not so much.
I need a little movement. A little something. Even if it’s small.
So today, we decided to do something about it.
⸻
Off to Cave Creek
We hopped in the car and headed north—just past Scottsdale—to a little town called Cave Creek.
Now, if you’ve never been, Cave Creek has that old western charm. The kind of place where you half expect to see cowboys tying up their horses outside a saloon.
There are restaurants with western themes, quirky little shops, and one place in particular that caught my attention—Frontier Town.
I’ll admit, I thought Frontier Town would be full of kids’ rides and arcade games.
Nope.
Instead, we found:
- Soap shops with all kinds of scents
- Kite shops (which made me smile)
- Beautiful period dresses with accessories
- Gift shops filled with all sorts of curious treasures
It had character… I’ll give it that.
But here’s the thing…
It was quiet.
Too quiet.
Still… Kind of Boring
The bakery? Closed.
BBQ places? Closed.
Energy level? Also closed.
As much as I wanted to feel excited wandering around, it just didn’t quite hit the mark today. Maybe it was the timing, or maybe it was just one of those days where nothing quite clicks.
So, we moved on.
Lunch at Horny Toad
Finding a place to eat wasn’t the problem.
Choosing one? That took a minute.

We finally landed on Horny Toad—a spot I had been to before, but Ken hadn’t.
Their whole vibe is BBQ, and we didn’t overthink it—we both ordered the brisket quesadilla.

Perfect choice.
We even had beers—which I don’t usually do—but somehow it just felt right sitting there in that laid-back, western-style backyard with a gentle breeze blowing through.
Honestly, that breeze alone was worth the trip.
And yes… I meant to take pictures of the food.
But if you’re anything like me, you already know how that goes.
By the time I remembered… the plate was basically empty. 😄
Sometimes It’s Not About the Destination
When we finally headed home, I realized something.
Was it the most exciting day ever?
No.
Was it still better than sitting at home doing nothing?
Absolutely.
Sometimes it’s not about finding the perfect outing. It’s just about breaking the routine, getting out of the house, and letting the day unfold however it’s going to unfold.
Even if it’s a little boring.
Tell Me…
Have you ever had days like that?
Days where nothing sounds fun… nothing feels exciting… and you just can’t quite shake the boredom?
What do you do to snap out of it?
Because I have a feeling… I’ll be needing some ideas for the next time this happens. 😊
