New flooring

Moving can be a real pain in the neck…or shall I say…back!

I’ve been a bit off the radar this week—well, at least somewhat. First, there was Easter (and what a wonderful, full day that was), followed by my much-needed “recovery day” on Monday. You know the kind…where you sit, sigh, and wonder why your body suddenly feels like it belongs to someone 20 years older.

But Wednesday? Oh boy…Wednesday was a whole different story.

That was the day Ken and I tackled the job of emptying out his office and my art studio/office/guest room. And let me tell you, those rooms may look small—but apparently, they hold the contents of an entire warehouse!

Why all the chaos?

Because Thursday was installation day—new flooring!

And not just any flooring…beautiful Luxury Vinyl Floors.

The Great Emptying-Out

Now, you’d think moving a few things wouldn’t be too bad. A couple of drawers here, some clothes there…simple, right?

Wrong.

The more we took out, the more appeared. It was like those rooms had a secret expansion feature we never knew about. Closets emptied onto the bed, drawers stacked up like a game of Tetris, and somehow…we still needed a place to sleep that night!

Thursday morning turned into a juggling act—shifting things from here to there, then back again, just so we could function like normal human beings.

Spring Cleaning…Whether We Liked It or Not

At some point, we looked at each other and said, “That’s it.”

Out it goes!

And honestly? That might have been the best part. Letting go of all those “we might need this someday” items felt pretty freeing. (Spoiler alert: we probably weren’t going to need them.)

Enter the Professionals

Then came the easy part.

The installers arrived around 8:30 in the morning—polite, efficient, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. By 1:30, both rooms were completely finished.

Just like that.

Meanwhile, Ken and I were off to the side, giving our aching backs the break they were desperately begging for.

The Big Reveal

That evening, after a little more organizing (very little), we finally sat down, had dinner, and just…looked.

And wow.

Those floors were worth every sore muscle, every lifted box, every “where are we going to put this?” moment. Clean, fresh, and absolutely beautiful.

Round Two: Putting It All Back

This morning, we started the process of moving everything back in—but this time, we took it slow. No rushing. No overdoing it.

There are still a few boxes tucked away—some filled with memories from Ken’s past, even from before I was in his life. Those will stay safely in the closet for now. Some things aren’t just “stuff”…they’re pieces of someone’s heart, and I want to respect that.

The guest bed? Not made yet. I’ve got plans for shelving first—which, of course, will require us to climb all over that bed. (What could possibly go wrong?)

So…Was It Worth It?

Absolutely.

Would I do it again anytime soon?

Not a chance.

Ken and I both agreed—we’re officially too old for this kind of heavy-duty project. From now on, less saving…more tossing.

Because let’s be honest—“we might need it someday” is starting to sound like a dangerous lie we tell ourselves.

What’s Next?

Well…apparently, we’re not done yet.

Next project?

The outdoor patio and driveway.

Pray for my back.

Sounds like fun, Eydie. :-) Went through that maybe 30 years ago. I renovated my whole house. New windows, doors, flooring and took down walls on main floor. Everything went to basement or on the deck. When that was done, I had a garage built. Then I renovated the basement. Everything went into the garage and onto deck. New windows, floors and cupboards. Took out walls also. I had a contractor but I was on alone at that time. Don’t know how I did it. Maybe it was because I was much younger.
