We’ve had little Lucy for over a month now, and ever since we brought her home, people have been asking the same question we’ve been wondering ourselves: What kind of dog is she? The Maricopa County Animal Shelter listed her as a Chihuahua and Australian Shepherd mix—but let’s be honest, something about that just didn’t add up. So, curiosity got the best of us, and we decided to order a DNA test through Wisdom Panel to settle the mystery once and for all.
And now… drumroll, please… the results are in!

They did get the Chihuahua part right—Lucy definitely has that bold, tiny-but-mighty energy. But instead of Australian Shepherd, she’s actually a mix of Siberian Husky, German Shepherd, a smidge of Yorkshire Terrier, and even a touch of Pomeranian. Yep, our little peanut has some serious variety in her DNA!
It explains a lot. Her alert eyes, confident stance, and surprising bursts of energy suddenly make more sense with the Husky and German Shepherd genes. The Yorkshire Terrier adds a sprinkle of spunk, and the Pomeranian? Maybe that’s where she gets her diva attitude.
Whatever her mix may be, she’s 100% adorable and 100% ours. And now, we can finally answer the “What kind of dog is she?” question with a little more confidence—and a whole lot of pride in our perfectly unique pup.
