It’s that time again—my annual pilgrimage to AutoNation Chevrolet for an oil change on my trusty 2015 Equinox. In Arizona’s blazing heat, keeping my car in top shape isn’t just a good idea—it’s a survival strategy. That sun doesn’t mess around, and neither do I when it comes to maintenance.

As usual, I’ve claimed my spot in the waiting room. And let me tell you, this isn’t your average stiff-chair-and-stale-coffee situation. They’ve got comfy sofas, cushy chairs, and tables set up like a mini co-working space. So here I am, laptop out, writing blog posts, scrolling through Facebook, and sipping on complimentary coffee. Oh—and yes, they have popcorn7. Free popcorn! I’m convinced everything feels a little better with a warm, salty handful of popcorn in hand.

Mike, my service advisor, popped in to give me the update: my car was still in the queue. Uggg! The waiting game continues. But he softened the blow with some pretty exciting news—they’re running a buy 3, get 1 for $1 sale on tires. And let me tell you, my tires are due. Honestly, I usually go to Big-O Tires for replacements, but the deal Mike quoted me was too good to pass up. Even he was surprised by the price. So, I said go for it! New tires—check!

They’re also going to check and top off all the fluids and even give my car a wash. A clean car always makes the day feel a bit brighter, doesn’t it?

Now, I expected a good deal on tires. What I didn’t expect was the soda machine. $3.25 for a bottle of soda? Holy moly! I nearly dropped my popcorn. Let’s just say I’ll be sticking to the complimentary coffee refills, thank you very much.

So here I sit, caffeinated and entertained, getting things done while my Equinox gets pampered. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon—and definitely worth the trip.

Do you bring work with you when you know you’ll be waiting?

I’m with you Eydie. I too am very conscientious about my car’s oil changes, etc…I figure that way I can keep my car running well and keep on road tripping to Arizona. I name my cars and this one’s name is Pearl. Do you name your cars?

I tried 3 times to post a comment on your blog, but it didn’t take.

While I leave the car maintenance part of our household to my DH, totally agree with keeping our vehicles tuned and maintained, especially with our kids away at college and we drive whenever we can to (a few hours away for each of them) see them
