In our world today, there are plenty of things that could stress me out. I won’t even go there—mainly because this space, my little corner of the internet, is not about politics or heavy debates. It’s about finding joy, peace, and maybe even a little inspiration.
One of the ways I keep myself grounded is through writing. When my thoughts start spinning, writing gives them somewhere to land. It’s like taking all that noise in my head and gently placing it onto paper so it doesn’t live inside me anymore.
But then… there are those days.
You know the ones.
The cursor blinks.
The mind goes blank.
And frustration creeps in.
That’s when I turn to something else—something colorful.
🖌️ A Life Filled With Color
I’ve always considered myself a creative person. I love surrounding myself with color, texture, and anything that lets my imagination wander a bit. Acrylic painting has become one of my favorite outlets. I dabble here and there, trying different techniques, sometimes loving the results… and sometimes wondering what on earth just happened!
But that’s okay. I don’t paint for galleries or fame. I paint for me. For my family. For the simple joy of creating something from nothing.
And then… there’s coloring.
🌈 What’s a Colorist?
I’m a colorist.
Not sure what that means?
It simply means this: I love to color.
And no, it’s not silly.
It’s not childish.
And it’s definitely not ridiculous.
In fact, it’s one of the most relaxing, satisfying things I do.
You wouldn’t believe how many people are part of this world. Thousands—no, millions—of adults are coloring every single day. Men and women from all walks of life, and all over the world. If you don’t believe me, just hop onto Facebook and search for “Adult Coloring.” You’ll find groups filled with beautiful pages, shared tips, and people cheering each other on.
It’s a whole community—and a very welcoming one.
✏️ From Crayola to “Oh My Goodness”
Do I color with crayons?
Well… I could. But I don’t.
I started out simple, just like most people do, with good old Crayola pencils. And they were fine—until I realized there was a whole other world out there.
That’s when I discovered Prismacolor.
Let me tell you… when I bought that set of 150 pencils (yes, for $140!), I wondered if I had lost my mind.
But the moment I started using them?
Ohhh yes. There was a difference. A big one.
From there, it became a bit of an adventure:
Prismacolor https://amzn.to/4czcU3L, Arteza https://amzn.to/4dXCwbu, Faber-Castell https://amzn.to/3OzrZJi, Derwent https://amzn.to/4sSkk6J, and others.
Each brand had its own personality, its own feel, its own magic.
Was I addicted?
Let’s just say… I wasn’t saying no.
📚 The Books… Oh, The Books!
And don’t even get me started on the coloring books.
Artists like Johanna Basford https://amzn.to/4eGMrSW (from Scotland) and Hanna Karlson https://amzn.to/4vKuk4H (from Sweden) pulled me right in. Page after page of intricate designs, whimsical scenes, and pure creative escape.
At one point, I thought I might go broke from buying them!
But here’s the sweet part—many were gifted to me. Family, friends, even kind strangers who knew how much I loved coloring would surprise me with new books. That kind of thoughtfulness? It stays with you.

🛍️ A Little Advice for Beginners
If you’re just getting started, here’s my two cents:
- Start with affordable pencils like Crayola
- Skip the super cheap Dollar Tree pencils (trust me on this one)
- Invest in better quality when you’re ready—you’ll see the difference
- Choose good-quality coloring books—it matters more than you think
- And yes… Amazon is a great place to start
💖 More Than Just Coloring
Coloring isn’t just about filling in spaces.
It’s about slowing down.
It’s about quieting the mind.
It’s about giving yourself permission to just be for a little while.
On the days when writing doesn’t come…
On the days when life feels a bit too loud…
You’ll find me with a handful of pencils, a beautiful page, and not a worry in the world.
And honestly?
That’s my kind of therapy.
Coloring really is my jam. What’s your jam?
