Sometimes, the things you didn’t expect to happen…end up being the most fun.
Ken has lived here for the past seven years, and during that time he’s had his trusty 2016 golf cart. It wasn’t flashy, but it did its job. Four seats—two facing forward, two facing backward—and space for his golf clubs. It got us where we needed to go, whether that was the clubhouse, a friend’s house, or just a little cruise around the neighborhood.

Our old Club Car!
But lately, I started noticing something.
The mumbling.
You know the kind—low, casual comments that aren’t really meant to be casual at all.
“I’ve been thinking…”
“Maybe it’s time…”
Ah yes. The seed had been planted. A new golf cart was on his mind.
Every year, our 55+ community’s Wood Shop raffles off a golf cart, and every year Ken tries his luck. And every year…well…let’s just say we’re still buying tickets. This year’s cart was red—our favorite color—but it didn’t have any of the extras we would’ve wanted. We already knew that if we won, we’d probably sell it and go hunting for something better.
So, I did what any determined woman would do—I put feelers out on Facebook.
Nothing. Not a nibble.
So off we went, diving into the world of golf cart shopping. Dealerships, online listings, used carts, new carts…we saw it all. Some were nice, some were not so nice, and most were way out of budget. After a while, the excitement started turning into disappointment.
“Maybe this isn’t meant to be,” I thought.
But then I had one last idea.
“Let’s go back to the place where you bought your 2016 cart.”
Ken wasn’t thrilled about it, but he agreed. And honestly? That’s where everything changed.
There it was.
Sitting right up on the display curb like it was waiting just for us…a beautiful, brand-new golf cart with all the bells and whistles. It practically sparkled.
Out comes Patrick, the salesman—and here’s the best part—he remembered Ken from years of coming in for tires and service.
I love that. There’s something so comforting about being remembered. It makes the whole experience feel personal.
Now, this first cart we saw? Let’s just say it was a beast. Way too high off the ground. I managed to climb in (barely), but poor Ken had a much harder time. That one was definitely not coming home with us.
But then Patrick pointed to the one sitting right next to it.
And oh my…
The first thing that caught my eye was those gorgeous light brown seats. Leather-looking (pleather, really), but soft, cushy, and so inviting. Then came the dashboard.

A monitor!
Not just any monitor—a full display with a backup camera, speedometer, turn signal indicators, and even a forward/reverse notification. And yes…Bluetooth! I could already picture us cruising through the neighborhood with music playing, wind in our hair.

But my absolute favorite feature?
A real parking brake.
If you’ve ever dealt with those tiny, awkward foot locks on older carts, you know exactly what I mean. That little square you have to hit just right? I hated it. This new cart had a proper, easy-to-use brake—and I was sold right then and there.
Finally, I noticed the brand name.

No, not candy like a Snickers or Jolly Rancher—though I wouldn’t have minded one of those either! Our old cart was a Club Car, a name everyone recognizes. Kandi was new to us. Patrick explained that they don’t spend big money on advertising, which helps keep the cost down—without sacrificing quality.
Music to Ken’s ears.
There was just one small hiccup—it was a two-seater.
But Patrick, ever the problem solver, said, “No problem. We can add a back seat.”
Of course…for a price.
We looked at each other.
Still within budget.
And just like that, Ken said the magic word:
“Sold.”
And the best part?
It’s Fire Engine Red.
Exactly what we wanted.
Sometimes, you search and search and come up empty. And then, when you least expect it, the perfect thing is sitting right there…just waiting for you to find it.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I hear that new Kandi calling my name. 🚗💨
