New York City Through My Heart
New York City is an interesting place. It’s an exciting place—full of adventure, culture, and people from every corner of the world… and yes, even a few shady characters if you look hard enough. I miss it dearly, and it’s been twenty-seven years since I stood in the city I love. The famous “I ❤️ NY” logo isn’t just a slogan to me; it’s a part of my heart.
If I had a crystal ball or a deck of Tarot cards, I’m almost certain they’d whisper that I may never walk those streets again. And you know what? That truly makes me sad.
But let me tell you why New York will always be my interesting place.
Everyone knows about the subways, right? They’ve earned quite the reputation—dangerous, chaotic, unpredictable. Turn on the TV and you’ll see people being shoved, robbed, threatened, and every nightmare scenario imaginable.
But here’s the truth from someone who has been there:
It’s not as bad as they want you to believe.
I rode the subway plenty of times, and guess what? I lived to tell the tale every time. I got to the city and back home in one piece. Sure, you’d see some… “colorful” characters down there. But you’d also see business people in suits, families with backpacks, musicians carrying instruments, and sometimes even celebrities trying to blend in.
It’s gritty, fast, loud—and completely fascinating.
It’s an interesting place.
Now let’s talk about the good stuff.
Radio City Music Hall is an absolute blast. The moment you step inside, you’re wrapped in warm golden light and shimmering wood tones. And right in the middle of the lobby hangs one of the most breathtaking chandeliers—a tall cylinder of glowing elegance that makes everything around it feel magical.
Then there’s the stage.
Oh, that stage.
A massive domed design made up of layered arches that sweep deep into the building, creating some of the best acoustics in the world. Multiple balconies, elegant box seats… it’s classic New York glamour at its finest. I’ve been there many times, but nothing—and I mean nothing—compares to the Christmas Spectacular.
It’s an interesting place.
Another place I adore is the Museum of Natural History. My kids loved it too, maybe more than I did.
You’re greeted immediately by a giant mastodon—huge, towering, magnificent. I could have stood there for hours. The museum is packed with exhibits of animals long gone, animals of today, dioramas of deserts and forests, and scenes from every corner of the natural world.
But the dinosaurs.
Oh, the dinosaurs!
Massive skeletons assembled bone by bone. Some covered with faux skin to help you imagine them alive. Even a life-sized whale suspended from the ceiling—so big it makes you feel small in the best possible way.
The place is too enormous to describe in one sitting, so let’s move on to the next interesting place.
Now we’re on the Hudson River, a place full of old ghost stories—but I’ll save those for another day. Today we’re aboard the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier, a cousin of the USS Midway in San Diego and the USS Yorktown in Charleston.
The Intrepid is a treasure.
It houses the world’s first space shuttle, a nuclear-weapons-carrying submarine, and dozens of military aircraft—each one telling its own story. Walking the decks feels like stepping into another time.
Another interesting place.
I’ve taken you on a tour of a few of my favorites—subways, golden theaters, museums of wonder, and floating military giants. New York City is endlessly fascinating, endlessly vibrant, endlessly alive.
But now I’m curious…
Where’s your interesting place?
What city, mountain, desert, or little hidden spot lives in your memories the way New York lives in mine?
