Working remotely has become the norm for many—and staying productive can sometimes be a challenge. Thankfully, the right tools can help keep you organized, focused, and efficient from your home office (or the nearest coffee shop). Matter of fact, I’ve used a few of these when I had my own business. Here are 10 top productivity apps that remote workers swear by:

1. Trello

A visual project management tool that uses boards, lists, and cards to help you organize tasks. Great for solo workers or small teams.

Best for: Organizing workflows and personal task management.

2. Notion

All-in-one workspace for notes, to-do lists, calendars, and databases. It’s perfect for creating dashboards and project hubs.

Best for: Combining documents, tasks, and knowledge bases in one place.

3. Slack

An essential communication tool that keeps your team connected through channels, direct messages, and integrations with other apps.

Best for: Real-time team communication and collaboration.

4. Todoist

A beautifully simple to-do list app that helps you break down big projects into manageable daily goals.

Best for: Prioritizing and tracking your day-to-day tasks.

5. Google Workspace

With Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Meet, Google Workspace offers a full suite of cloud-based tools for collaboration and productivity.

Best for: Cloud collaboration and file sharing.

6. Zoom

Still the go-to for virtual meetings, with features like screen sharing, breakout rooms, and webinar capabilities.

Best for: Video conferencing and client meetings.

7. RescueTime

Automatically tracks the time you spend on apps and websites to help you identify distractions and increase focus.

Best for: Time tracking and improving digital habits.

8. Evernote

Take notes, capture ideas, and clip web articles all in one app. Syncs across devices so nothing gets lost.

Best for: Brain dumping, research, and organizing notes.

9. ClickUp

A robust productivity platform that blends task management, docs, time tracking, and goal setting into one workspace.

Best for: Teams with complex workflows or multiple projects.

10. Forest

A unique app that helps you stay focused by growing a virtual tree when you avoid distractions. It’s productivity with a cute twist.

Best for: Beating phone addiction and staying focused during deep work.

Final Tip: Pick 2–3 apps that solve your specific productivity pain points rather than trying them all. The best tools are the ones you actually use consistently!

Do you use any of these tools in your work life? Which ones? What are some other tools you use to make work life, or your personal life, easier?

As someone who is retired, I don’t use any of these for work, but I love To Do List for keeping myself on track with my everyday life.

Great! I have an iPhone, so it has a Reminder app for things to do and shopping.

I haven’t used most of these, but I did use Zoom for parent-teacher conferences when my kids were doing virtual school. For my own time management, I use Flowsavvy—it works well for me!

I’ve dabbled in most of the tools you mention. I use mostly video tools, such as opus plus, Vimeo, and of course, my iPhone!

That’s quite a list and I haven’t used any of them but being retired I need to organize projects, appointments, etc. better. I’m going to check them out because I’m on the HOA board I’m sure one would be great to organize meetings and even ZOOM would work for virtual meetings. Thanks for the info.

There are a lot of good ones on this list. I personally like OneNote instead of Evernote, since there isn’t a limit to what you can save, unlike Evernote that requires a subscription when you reach a data limit.
