What an unforgettable morning at the South Rim!

We rolled into Grand Canyon National Park just before 9:00 AM under bright, clear skies—perfect temperatures, with just a gentle, cool breeze to remind us we were standing on the edge of one of the world’s great wonders. As soon as we parked in the handicapped-accessible lot (thankfully right by the entrance!), I felt a tingle of excitement: my very first visit to the Canyon was about to begin.

A short uphill walk brought us to the main scenic overlook, and…wow. Words truly fail to capture that first heartbeat of awe. I could feel tears pricking at my eyes as the vast chasm spilled out before me—layer upon layer of red-and-gold rock stretching as far as the eye could see, bathed in morning light. Every angle offered a new masterpiece, every turn begged for another photograph.
By 11:00 AM things were already getting crowded (Ken had hoped to arrive later), and when we finally made our way back to the car, the lot was overflowing—visitors trekking nearly half a mile just to catch a glimpse. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for that early start and the accessible parking that made it possible for us to see so much without the long haul.
We strolled along the rim at our own pace, savoring every vista: the way shadows played across the ridges, the distant Colorado River gleaming far below, the sheer scale that both humbled and exhilarated. Despite the cool breeze, the warmth of the sun and the thrill of being there kept us perfectly comfortable.

Leaving the Canyon, my heart was full. The Grand Canyon wasn’t just a place on a map—it was an experience that stirred something deep inside me. I’m so glad we made the trip, and already I’m dreaming of returning to watch the sunset turn those cliffs rose-gold.
Until next time, Grand Canyon…thank you for showing me just how small—and how very lucky—we are to witness such natural grandeur.
Have you been to the Grand Canyon? Some people say it’s just a big hole in the ground. What’s your take?
