Arizona is full of breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and intriguing legends, making it an adventurer’s dream. I’ve already explored some incredible spots, but my list of places to visit keeps growing. Here are a few destinations I’m eager to experience firsthand.

The Grand Canyon – A Timeless Wonder

Although I’ve not been before, the Grand Canyon never seems to gets old. Whether it’s hiking into the canyon, rafting the Colorado River, or simply taking in the awe-inspiring views from the rim, this natural wonder is a must-see. When I visit, I’d love to explore the less-crowded North Rim or catch a sunrise from Desert View Watchtower.

Haunted Houses and Ghostly Encounters

Arizona has its fair share of haunted places, and I’m ready to explore some of them! The Bird Cage Theatre in Tombstone, Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, and The Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee all have eerie reputations. Whether it’s ghost tours or overnight stays, I’m fascinated by the history and paranormal stories behind these places.

Chocolate Falls – A Hidden Gem

Grand Falls, also known as Chocolate Falls, is a seasonal waterfall on the Navajo Nation that turns a rich brown color due to sediment. It’s like a real-life chocolate fountain! Since it only flows after snowmelt or heavy rains, timing a visit can be tricky, but I’d love to catch it in full force. UPDATE: since writing this post, I learned that the Navaho Nation has banned guest from seeing the Chocolate Falls due to people abusing the property.

Oatman – Wild Burros and Old West Charm

Oatman is a quirky ghost town on Route 66, known for its wild burros that roam the streets. This former gold-mining town embraces its Old West roots with staged gunfights and rustic charm. I can already picture myself wandering the historic streets, meeting the burros, and maybe even panning for gold.

More Arizona Adventures Await

These are just a few of the places calling my name, but Arizona has so much more to offer—hidden canyons, mysterious petroglyphs, and scenic backroads waiting to be explored. Whether it’s history, nature, or the supernatural, my Arizona adventure is far from over.

What’s on your Arizona bucket list?

I have been to Arizona a couple of times, one in the Fall and once in the winter. It is an amazing place! I would love to go back one day and maybe take a month exploring.

I’ve lived in NY and in CA, but once I moved to AZ I knew that this would be my final move. Even the summers, although way too hot, are beautiful. Sure hope you come back for a visit. Let me know.

Oh – I have a few wonderful memories of the Grand Canyon. It was our honeymoon adventure as we moved from NYC to California. Stayed in Prescott, Arizona, in the only hotel, the phone number was Prescott 1, the hotel’s air conditioning required leaving the screen door locked and the room door open.

Yikes! No air conditioning? Prescott is beautiful. Did you go to Whiskey Row? We’re going to the Grand Canyon after Easter. There will be a blog post about that real soon!

Eydie, if you like gorgeous and haunted places, try Jerome, AZ. The town sprang up in the peak of mining days, and much has now been restored. They usually have an annual Home Tour in April or May. There are a few small hotels and BnBs there.

I’ve been to Jerome. What a neat place. We ate at the Haunted Hambuger. Fun place.

Time for me to go visit. I have been there twice, both work related. Once was to Phoenix. Being on business, it was like any other city.. I flew in… went to the office, and left. I did not see much.

The second time was for a Conference and was at a resort. Again, I did not see any of the sites, just what was on the resort.

Now I have some places to visit the next time I head out west!

    Thanks.

Oh Paul, you really need to take a week and visit Arizona. If you are into baseball, come when Arizona is bustling with Spring Training. Plenty of hiking (if you’re into that). Tubing on the Salt River, kayaking at Saguaro Lake. Tombstone is a must see. The town and it’s store and restaurants are still there. So much to do, not enough time!

Flagstaff Arizona was on my husband’s bucket list to visit one of his buddies who was in the Army with him. He never made it but I have some great friends there so maybe I should put Arizona on my bucket list.

That’s too bad. Sorry he never made it. But you could honor him by going to Flastaff.
